Wireless headphones incorporate some kind of wireless technology, usually Bluetooth, which makes them much more convenient with no cables to get tangled up with. However, they will almost certainly offer worse sound quality than an equivalent non-wireless pair of headphones. Plus they burn through batteries quicker and can be heavier. But although the lossy wireless technology used on the cheaper headphones does not compare to traditional wired headphones, the newer portable Bluetooth 4.0 headphones with the aptX codec offer much better performance over the standard Bluetooth, it’s still not 100% loss free but in practice you would be pushed to notice any difference! If you have a compatible smartphone with Bluetooth, the obvious benefit is to get rid of the wires, but many Bluetooth headphones also include track navigation control on the ear cup plus built in microphone for hands-free calls too. Plus as more and more mobile phones include integrated Bluetooth, wireless headsets are becoming a must-have accessory for hands-free phone use.
